Woodlands of Ireland procured a report on the Natural Capital Values of Native Woodlands (see ‘Publications’). This report was undertaken by Optimize Ltd and will be used to highlight generally unseen values and lobby for further funds for the native woodland sector. Woodlands are often only valued for timber and this report estimates values on ecosystem and provisioning services, i.e. biodiversity, amenity, carbon sequestration, water quality, health, flood mitigation, etc. The report has been presented to policy makers, government officials and politicians. It was also be promoted through the national press in 2014.
