Native Woodland Scheme - Training

Woodlands of Ireland and the Forerst Service (Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine) jointly organise native woodland training courses for landowners, stakeholders (i.e. statutory agency staff, nursery owners, environmental NGOs and interested individuals) and Native Woodland Scheme (NWS) practitioners (i.e. foresters, ecologists and woodland contractors). Training can entail 1-day courses on specific topics or 2-day courses that encompass a broad range of management, ecological and silvicultural topics specific to the NWS. The 2-day course is also a requirement for NWS foresters and ecologists to attend in order to receive accreditation to work on the NWS.

In December 2014 (and October 2016), a 2-day NWS course was held in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow. The course is focussed on the procedures, planning and implementation involved in the NWS and the video clips included here are a synopsis of all the course modules (Day 1) and field workshop that took place (Day 2). Course participants undertook a NWS management plan in the field, which were subsequently presented and discussed in-house (Day 2)
