Woodlands of Ireland - News

Call for project proposals, 2007

Woodlands of Ireland promotes the sustainable management and expansion of native woodlands in Ireland. To this end we are interested in hearing from stakeholders who are developing projects alone or in partnership with others. In particular, limited resources (no more than ?7,000 per project) are available to assist in the development and implementation of projects. All topics will be assessed but particular emphasis will be given to;

- community woodland initiatives at local level

- education in native woodlands

- native riparian woodland establishment and management

-value added downstream product development using native wood

- native woodland arts and crafts

Please send detailed proposal, including costs, to Declan Little, Project Manager Woodlands of Ireland, Seismograph House, Rathfarnham Castle, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16. Closing date: October 19th, 2007

Forestry and Heritage Review: Public Consultation

On behalf of the Heritage Council, Woodlands of Ireland is co-ordinating a wide ranging review of current Heritage Council forest policy to reflect the changing context of forestry and to provide a vision for the future development of forestry in Ireland, with a particular emphasis on the national heritage. The review has been contracted to a collaborative team. This team is interested to hear from all forestry stakeholders. They are asking for your concise and directed input on the main question: what is your vision for forestry in Ireland in the future? For more information, please see Forestry and Heritage Review: Public Consultation

Semi-natural Woodlands – Seed stands

Woodlands of Ireland are supporting the Forest Service and COFORD in the establishment of a national catalogue of seed stands specifically for seed collections for the Native Woodland Scheme. This is to ensure a continuous supply of native tree and shrub planting stock locally and regionally throughout Ireland in future. Allowing seed collections to take place in privately-owned woodlands will contribute towards the appropriate management and expansion of the native woodland resource.
If you or anyone you know has a native/semi-natural woodland and wishes for it to be considered for inclusion in this database please contact Declan Little at the address below.
